The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) has issued an orange flood warning (the middle level on a three-tier scale) for Michalovce District in Kosice Region of eastern Slovakia January 7th. The alert has been issued due to rainfall and melting snow in western Ukraine, which is expected to cause rising water levels in the Latorica River. The alert level indicates that the weather phenomenon is uncommon for the time of year and poses the potential for disruption and damage to property. Officials could update and possibly extend the coverage of weather alerts over the coming days.
