Travel Alert

The Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) has called for a general strike in Tataouine Governorate December 30th. The strike is in response to several grievances, including alleged intimidation and harassment of UGTT workers by authorities. The UGTT has also called for demonstrations from 10:00-12:00 December 30th – January 1st outside the regional directorate of social affairs headquarters in the governorate.

The strike will likely disrupt public services. Security forces will likely deploy to monitor protests and gatherings. Increased business and transport disruptions are likely for the duration of the protests. Confrontations are possible if protests become disruptive or protesters ignore police orders to disperse.
