One million Nigerian children could miss school this year as the new school year is to begin. The United Nations children’s agency UNICEF reports there has been a rise in mass school kidnappings and insecurity and these schools have been a target for ransom in northern Nigeria by armed groups and criminal gangs. This year there have been over 20 attacks and more than 1,400 children abducted with 16 killed and 200 still missing. Families are now fearful of sending their children to school.
