Travel Alert: Sudan

Travel Alert

Officials have declared a state of emergency and issued a flood warning for communities in the vicinity of the Merowe Dam (Hamdab Dam) in Northern State as of July 23. The warning is in response to the high volume of water in the dam.

Should officials release a greater quantity of water from the dam than normal, localized flooding is likely in communities downstream of the dam along the Nile River. Any flooding could result in localized disruptions, damage to agricultural land, or damage to bridges. Expect transportation to be delayed as road and bridge closers are expected to occur throughout the week.
