Travel Alert: Israel [May 13th, 2021]

Israel travel Alert

Top officials have activated rocket sirens in southern and central Israel, including Tel Aviv, on May 12 following reports of projectile launches from the Gaza Strip. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that sirens have been activated in Tel Aviv. The Gaza-based militant group Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack, reporting that it launched 130 rockets toward central Israel. Israeli authorities previously halted flights at Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) late May 11 in response to a similar attack; further closures of the airport are possible. There have been unofficial reports of casualties and damage from this most recent barrage; however, their extent and severity remain unclear.

Gaza-based militants could launch additional rocket and mortar attacks against Israel’s southern communities and major cities, including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, amid heightened tensions. The IDF will almost certainly retaliate with airstrikes against militant sites and facilities in Gaza City and Khan Younis.
